Leadworks Foundation CKC has marked an important milestone, celebrating 11 years of empowering youth and local communities through education and skills development.

Founded by Mustaf Makaudi in March 2015, the organisation has dedicated more than a decade to equipping young people with practical skills aimed at improving employment opportunities and community development.

Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical training, the foundation has built a strong reputation for transforming the lives of participants in Cosmo City Extension 2, Honeydew Emthonjeni Centre, Malatji, Kya Sands, Itsoseng and surrounding communities.

To address the growing challenges of illiteracy and unemployment, the organisation introduced several training programmes, including:

• End-User Computing / Microsoft Digital Skills – Three-month programme
• Security Training – Four to six weeks
• Forklift Training – Five to ten days
• Cisco Networking Programmes – Three months
• Entrepreneurship Training

Speaking in an interview with Cosmo City Chronicles, Leadworks Zandspruit Centre Manager Julia Mphahlele said the organisation works closely with local partners to ensure that young people are equipped with relevant skills for employment or starting their own businesses.

“Through partnerships with local businesses, institutions and community stakeholders, our mission is to equip young people with practical skills and training that prepare them for real work opportunities or entrepreneurship,” she said.

She explained that the programmes were introduced to address the growing need for practical skills, employment opportunities and small business development within the community.

Mphahlele added that as the organisation expanded, additional training programmes were introduced while ensuring they remained accessible to eligible candidates.

“We have been working closely with the office of the councillor to ensure information about these opportunities is shared within the community. Most initiatives are linked to local employment opportunities. However, foreign nationals with valid documentation may also be considered depending on the programme guidelines,” she said.

She further noted that most programmes primarily target South African youth between the ages of 18 and 35, although older individuals may also be considered depending on the programme requirements.

With graduation ceremonies held annually, the non-profit organisation has successfully produced trained entrepreneurs, computer operators and forklift drivers through its various programmes.

“We have seen very positive outcomes from our previous participants,” said Mphahlele.

“Many of our graduates are now working in sectors such as office administration, the security industry, logistics and the IT sector. Those who completed the entrepreneurship programme have also started their own businesses, creating employment opportunities and helping reduce poverty in their communities.”

Mphahlele encouraged community members, particularly young people, to visit the CKC Multipurpose Centre or the Zandspruit Emthonjeni Learning Facility to learn more about the available training programmes.

“Those who are interested in learning are welcome to join. Our team will assist with information and training intakes. We encourage participants to remain committed and complete their courses, as these programmes are designed to help build a better future for our communities,” she said.

She also congratulated former students for their dedication and achievements.

“We are proud of your commitment. Continue contributing positively to your communities. Knowledge is power, and it is important to use it to make a difference,” she concluded.
