Far North students graduate under CareerBuild

“Our aim is to help young people decide what they want to do in their lives,” said CareerBuild chairperson Carole Craggs during a graduation ceremony held at Far North Secondary School on 15 April.

“We want the young ones to be able to discover their purpose, who they are and what their skills are.”

CarreerBuild collaborated with North Point City Church and Impophomo to mentor grade eleven students. According to Craggs, the grade 11 program assists CareerBuilders in planning and choosing jobs based on an understanding of their God-given abilities, personalities, and purpose.

Throughout the program, each student creates their own career plan, outlining the specific actions they must take to accomplish their career objectives. CarrerBuild then provides learners with employment and education information, such as bursaries and job prospects. After developing and assessing the learners' career plans, CareerBuild awards certificates to the learners.

“We have been working to help the children in a five-week programme,” Craggs said. “We organised different professionals and coaches who would sit down with the children individually. They would then help the students decide what they want to do in future.”

Craggs said that the professionals would also provide information to the children as to where to study certain professions and how to get bursaries.

“It is very important to have such programmes in the community,” Craggs said. “It is life changing. We have got some stories from the previous students. They have ended up successful, they have degrees, jobs and they are doing well out there. We want them to be positive in whatever they are doing.”

CareerBuild is a non-profit organization that helps young people aged 9 to 25 plan and choose their careers. It has been ongoing for ten years and has made a difference in the lives of 3000 young people.
